It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kelly Canavan, the Assistant Commissioner at the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Kelly, a dedicated leader in the Australian public sector, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to public service.
Kelly had an impressive career at the Australian Taxation Office, where she served as Assistant Commissioner for Private Wealth and Indirect Tax. Over the past six years, Kelly made a significant impact in shaping the future of Australia’s taxation policy and services. Her extensive experience in tax management, coupled with her work with large corporate clients, earned her the respect of colleagues and the broader business community.
Before joining the ATO, Kelly worked in various roles, including at Ernst & Young, where she provided strategic advice on the application of indirect taxes. She also held positions in business management and leadership, consistently demonstrating exceptional skills in program management, business analysis, and mentorship.
Kelly was an alumnus of Monash University, where she completed her Bachelor of Economics, Accounting, and Business/Management. Her academic background, combined with her years of professional experience, made her a key figure in Australian business and tax policy.
Her colleagues at the ATO, friends, and family remember Kelly as a brilliant, driven professional who always sought to make a positive difference in her community and beyond. Her contributions to the ATO and her mentorship will continue to be felt long after her passing.
